Grapevine Stories
An interview with Lauren Child
We visited best-selling author and illustrator Lauren Child in her North London studio and talked to her about her books and characters including Charlie and Lola and her new Lotta and Lola series published this month. She spoke about the importance of sharing books with really young children, about listening to children, childhood reading and her time as Children’s Laureate. We also had an exclusive look at what she’s working on right now in her studio - a beautiful artwork inspired by Hampstead Heath.
The creator of the much-loved Charlie & Lola, Lauren talks to me about her career and the inspiration behind her books, that play such an important role in helping children understand the world, build confidence and develop a lifelong love of reading.
The first book in Lauren’s new Lotta and Lola series called Pudding Now Please With Lotta and Lola was published on 2 July (Simon and Schuster Children’s Books). It’s all about the funny and imaginative conversations that children have together.
